After picking up his new ID and fake papers for GovCorp’s personnel files from IT, Jake walked into the small conference room where he was supposed to hand the documents over to Luna, whom Derek had mentioned earlier. Jake’s mouth fell open when he saw Oliver kissing a young woman in black leggings and a long red pullover that hugged her body nicely. She was only a little taller than Kendra but much curvier, with olive skin and dark-brown hair. Noticing Jake, she wiggled out of Oliver’s embrace, but both grinned at Jake unabashedly.

After Oliver had introduced her as Luna Faris, Jake handed over his paperwork to her.

“Thanks, I’ll start the official recruiting process tomorrow. Should be able to get you on the crew within two days, max.” She stowed the documents in her tote bag and gave him a big open smile. “I’m so happy to meet Oliver’s brother. I wish I could stay a little longer, but I’ve got to catch a train.”

Brother. It still sounded so unfamiliar.

Oliver tugged at Luna’s long dark waves, and his brow creased. “I’d rather drive you.”

She opened the door, and they strode out into the hallway. “I know, baby. But with all the commotion and traffic rerouting, the train’s the better option.”

Oliver looked unconvinced, but he pulled her into his arms.

The news blared from a neighboring office, stating that naturals with relations to GVs had been attacked by Fronters across various parts of town.

Oliver stiffened and cursed, but Luna only wrapped her arms around him tighter and smacked a quick kiss on his lips. “Screw them.”

Oliver relaxed only a fraction. “Call me when you’re home.”

“Calm down, baby. I will.” She cupped his cheek for a moment then turned and waved goodbye to Jake. “See you soon.”

“Sure.” The last thing Jake had expected was Oliver having a natural girlfriend.

Frowning, Oliver watched her walk away until she disappeared around the corner. He wiped a hand across his brow. “I could strangle those fucking Fronters.”

Jake leaned against the whitewashed wall. “Yeah, maybe you should be careful with her in public now.”

The corners of Oliver’s mouth lifted. “I’m always, but she just won’t stop touching me.” Then his expression sobered. “No, really. I am. We’re safe here on the compound, but I wouldn’t do that anywhere else in public.” He grinned at Jake. “So, you and Kendra, huh?”

Jake shoved his hands in his cargo’s pockets. Was it that obvious?

Oliver chuckled. “The way you two couldn’t keep your eyes off each other, you’d have to be blind not to notice.”

“We just met. And with all that shit with the Fronters and rogues…” Jake had no clue where to go from there or what to do about Kendra. If they weren’t careful, she might draw unwanted attention from both the Front and GovCorp. The Front would attack her because of her relationship with him, but GovCorp might do much worse if they found out she’d spied on them. Anger clawed through Jake’s guts. Sander might have gotten Kendra in trouble.
